Assam: Notorious dacoit Jainul Abedin shot dead in Nagaon

The notorious criminal identified as Jainul Abedin (47) from Dhing was under the radar of security forces for a long time.

A notorious criminal and a murder accused was shot dead by Nagaon Police on Saturday night at the Salkatee Pathar area under Dhing police station in Nagaon district.


The notorious criminal identified as Jainul Abedin (47) from Dhing was under the radar of security forces for a long time.


Sources informed that Abedin was involved in several dacoity-related activities in Nagaon for over a decade.


Speaking to The Northeast Today (TNT) on Sunday, Nagaon SP Anand Mishra informed, "We got inputs that Jainul Abedin was planning a dacoity in Nagaon area shortly. Following this, Additional SP (HQ) Dhurba Bora and his team launched a massive manhunt at his residence and warned him to surrender with his arms, however, he opened fire at the police personnel, and in retaliation, the police team shot him. He was rushed to hospital for treatment where doctors declared him dead,".


Mishra further stated that Abedin was a notorious criminal and involved in many criminal activities in the region.


"We have recovered a 7.65 mm pistols, three live rounds with one in the chamber, and two fired cases from his possession," Mishra added.


Earlier on Saturday, a drug supplier identified as Azizul Haque was shot on his right leg while trying to escape the police patrolling team.


Haque was involved in the supply of contraband items in the area, police officials informed.
