Assam mulls implementation of Forest Rights Act on mission mode

GUWAHATI:

A high-level meeting here on Friday underlined the need to prepare a roadmap for implementing the Forest Rights Act, 2006 on a mission mode with the welfare of plain tribes and backward classes department as the nodal department along with the environment and forest department.


Assam minister for environment and forest, Parimal Suklabaidya directed the senior forest officials to instruct all divisional forest officers to coordinate with deputy commissioners of concerned districts to implement the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in letter and spirit.


The meeting organised in accordance with the directive of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also discussed at length the issue regarding rehabilitation of the people of Laika and Dodhia residing in Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in Tinsukia district.


The forest department will soon issue a notification in this regard.
The meeting was also attended by the minister for welfare of plain tribes and backward classes department, Ranoj Pegu; MLA Bhuban Pegu, principal secretaries of both the departments and other senior officials.
