DIPHU:

The Allied Royal Riders of Karbi Anglong (ARRKA), on Saturday, organised the ‘Ride for Justice’ motorcycle rally to support the demand of bringing the killers of 12-year-old Sumila Ronghangpi to justice.
The rally, which drew out hundreds of supporters, highlighted the demands for immediate deliverance of justice, capital punishment for the culprits, and compensation for the victim’s family.
“We are part of a motorcycle group in Diphu and have joined this rally organised by ARRKA to demand justice for late Sumila Ronghangpi,” said one participant.
On April 22, Sumila Ronghangpi was allegedly tortured, raped and burnt alive by retired bank employee Prakash Chandra Borthakur and his son Nayan Jyoti Borthakur at Raha in Assam’s Nagaon district.
Ronghangpi had been staying with the family as a domestic help and, according to sources, wanted to go back home to Kudam Ronghang Arong under Boithalangso police station in West Karbi Anglong district.
Following the incident, police arrested Borthakur and his son and several tribal organisations and social activists have even demanded the death penalty for the accused.
