DIBRUGARH:

Six organisations from Moran on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Assam chief minister seeking fulfillment of various demands.

The organisations staged a protest in front of Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner's office against their long-pending demands.

"Scheduled Tribe (ST) status is a long pending demand of our community. We are seeking ST tag for our community for the past several years. We have staged several protests but still, the centre has not looked into the demands. Though the government has decided to provide an Autonomous Council for Moran community, but we demand that it should be included under Sixth Scheduled," said Munin Duarah, general Secretary of All Moran Students' Union.

"The government should seek the help of the centre and solve the decade-old flood and erosion problem. Every year, the residents of Dirak-Sumoni area suffer the burnt of flood and erosion. The government must take immediate steps to address these issues," Duarah added.
