Assam: Lakhimpur district admintration sounds alert as Ranganadi water level rise

According to District Emergency Operational Centre (DEOC) data, the water level of the RHEP dam rose from 300 mm at 2.16 pm to 4,000 mm within four hours till 6.15 pm on Saturday.

Assam's Lakhimpur district witnessed a flood-like situation on Saturday after the Ranganadi river water level increased.

It has been learned that NEEPCO has released 605.25 cumecs of water through its gate no 4 of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP) causing a rise of the water level towards the downstream of Ranganadi river in Lakhimpur district.

Every year flood creates havoc in Assam by damaging properties and lives likewise. 

According to District Emergency Operational Centre (DEOC) data, the water level of the RHEP dam rose from 300 mm at 2.16 pm to 4,000 mm within four hours till 6.15 pm on Saturday.

The waters from NEEPCO's RHEP dam devasted Lakhimpur with flood deluge in 2008 and 2017 respectively.

The Lakhimpur district administration has alerted the downstream areas of the district.

Meanwhile, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah has expressed concern over the excessive release of water from the Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project.

He has requested Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to raise an issue with the Union Power Ministry.
