DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh Police on Tuesday arrested a fake doctor who had been serving as a medical officer at Hatiali tea estate in Dibrugarh.

The quack identified as Eyaqub Ali had stolen the identity of one Dr Eyaqub Ali Ahmed, an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist from JSB Civil Hospital, Kajalgaon in Chirang district.

Based on an FIR lodged by Dr Ahmed, Chabua police arrested the quack from his tea garden bungalow.

"During the investigation, we found that the accused had identified himself as a real doctor currently employed in Chirang district. For the past 5 years, he has been serving as a medical officer at the Hatiali tea estate." said the officer-in-charge of Chabua police station Tulumoni Dowerah.

It may be mentioned that earlier on June 3, Chabua Police had arrested another fake doctor identified as Simon Nag from Mokalbari tea estate in Dibrugarh.

In both instances, the fraud cases were first unearthed by Dr Abhijit Neog, a Guwahati-based doctor and Dr Parthajit Majumdar of Assam Medical College. Both of them took the efforts to check the documents, inform the real doctors about the identity thefts who in turn approached the police.

Meanwhile, ACMS vice president Nabin Keot has demanded the government to initiate an inquiry against both the doctors and take action against them.

Keot also stated that there is a racket being run in the tea garden areas where people are susceptible to falling into the trap of such quacks.
