Assam extends support to Manipur, sends 3 MT of oxygen

Sarma further said that Assam will always help the Northeastern states who a facing a similar situation due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

GUWAHATI:

The Government of Assam has extended support to the neighbouring state of Manipur by supplying 3 Metric Tonnes (MT) of oxygen, amid the state reporting acute shortage of life-saving gas in various hospitals.

"I am pleased to share that Assam has had the privilege to serve Manipur with 3 MT Oxygen in view of shortage there. Our surplus resources are always available to help all in the North East region and elsewhere," Sarma said over a tweet.

Sarma further said that Assam will always help the Northeastern states who a facing a similar situation due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Earlier on Friday, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital had red-flagged the alarming situation and cancelled all routine medical works from May 1.

"Due to an acute shortage of oxygen and the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital, routine work by all departments of RIMS shall be cancelled from May 1 under further notice," a statement issued by the medical superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Prof H Priyoshakhi Devi said.

Manipur on Monday reported 362 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike this year, that took its tally to 32,523.
