Assam: Enraged man kills wife for 'gutkha'

The husband had asked for Rs 10 from his wife to effectuate his need, sources said.

GUWAHATI:

In a tragic incident, one man from Chataimari village in Nalbari district of Assam has been apprehended for allegedly killing his wife because she refused to give him money to buy gutkha.


According to reports, Bakuli Haloi (38), was killed by her husband Narayan Haloi, during the wee hours of July 9. 


The husband had asked for Rs 10 from his wife to effectuate his need, sources said.


Meanwhile, a police official informed that the enraged culprit repeatedly kicked his wife in a fit of rage resulting in her death.


"Narayan tried to cover up the murder and told the local residents that his wife died due to some disease. He also tried to perform her last rites but his wife’s relatives and locals demanded a post-mortem before the funeral," the reports said.


The Mukalmua Police has apprehended the accused, and the wife's body has been taken to the police station for further investigation.
