GUWAHATI:

As part of an enforcement drive against public vehicles, the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner's office on November 18 seized six public vehicles and registered 33 cases against individuals for charging exorbitant fares from the passengers in the city.

The drive was taken out by enforcement officials in accordance with the directive of Kamrup Metro DC Pallab Gopal Jha at Lokhra Road and Lal Ganesh areas.

“As directed by the deputy commissioner, an enforcement drive against public passenger vehicles was conducted today for allegedly collecting excess fares from passengers at Lokhra Road, Lal Ganesh. Six vehicles have been seized and 33 offence cases have been registered,” said an official release.

It has been alleged that the city bus, tempo and other passenger vehicle operators collect hefty fares from the passengers without following government notification.

It is also alleged that the city bus, tempo, and trackers demand exorbitant fares even as they carry 100 percent passengers without the government’s knowledge.
