DIBRUGARH:

Ahead of the Assam Assembly Election results on May 2, government officials, party candidates and party supporters were seen standing in queue for the COVID-19 test at Chowkidinghee in Dibrugarh on Friday, violating all COVID norms.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had notified that all officials and counting agents who will be part of the May 2 declaration of the results process will have to get themselves tested for the COVID-19 virus on April 30.

However, social distancing norms were flouted and all COVID guidelines were violated during the tests, as a large number of people had gathered at the spot.

The ECI Had earlier also issued guidelines prohibiting victory procession after the election results.

After the surge of COVID-19 cases in Dibrugarh, the district administration has taken certain measures to contain the spread of the virus, however, the people in the area are still unwary of the grave situation that the state is in.
