DIBRUGARH:

The Covid-19 second wave, which hit Dibrugarh in April and May, affecting the population of the district, is now witnessing a decline registering 3,042 cases in July.

According to official figures, the numbers are almost one-fourth of the total cases registered logged in May when the total cases had jumped to 11,613.

It may be noted during the second wave from April 1 to July 31, the district recorded 22,818 cases of Covid-19, including 325 deaths.

Health department sources added that not only the number of positive cases has declined, but even the number of deaths has come down considerably.

“The daily covid positive cases and deaths have been declining since the past several weeks. As of today, there are only 797 active cases in the district. It shows the easing of the second wave. But we are careful enough not to loosen the grip, as even a single day of laxity may squander the efforts to bring down the cases. People also have to be cautious and there has to be a continuous effort towards containing the spread of the virus,” an official said.

He further said that 4,42,301 people have vaccinated in the district while adding that the vaccination process will be further ramped up across the district from August onwards.
