10 died of JE at Assam Medical College and Hospital since January this year

DIBRUGARH: 

The Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) reported ten cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) death from January 2021 till date.

Talking to TNT-The Northeast Today, AMCH superintendent Prasanta Dihingia said, “Since January this year, we have had 108 Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and 44 JE cases admitted at AMCH. Four patients died at the pediatric department while 6 succumbed at the medicine department of AMCH”.

“Most cases are from Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts this year. In the last two years, cases of AES and JE from Dibrugarh district have decreased,” Dihingia added.

Siddhartha Saikia, district consultant of the Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) said, “Because of the sincere efforts of the health department, the cases have decreased in Dibrugarh district. The month of June, July, and August are usually the peak period for the disease.”
