‘Bhut Jolokia’ from Nagaland exported to London from Guwahati airport

A sample shipment, comprising 250 kilograms of Naga Chilli, procured from Kohima and other parts of Nagaland, along with 500 kilograms of betel leaf, was dispatched by Keiga Exports Pvt Ltd on an Air India aircraft from the international cargo complex of LGBI Airport here on Wednesday.

‘Bhut Jolokia’ or Naga chillies have for the first time been exported from Guwahati, the Gateway of Northeast, to London.

A sample shipment, comprising 250 kilograms of Naga Chilli, procured from Kohima and other parts of Nagaland, along with 500 kilograms of betel leaf, was dispatched by Keiga Exports Pvt Ltd on an Air India aircraft from the international cargo complex of LGBI Airport here on Wednesday.

The consignment was flagged off by S. Sasikumar, joint director general of foreign trade and Ravi Kant, regional executive director, Airports Authority of India (AAI), North East Region in the presence of Lal Mohan Thakur, Commandant, CISF at the Guwahati air cargo complex.

Addressing the media, Ravi Kant said that the occasion was special because “Bhut Jolokia” being a unique product of the North East, has for the first time being exported from AAI international cargo complex of Guwahati.

“We are very much enthusiastic that the cargo export potential from the Northeast region airports will grow and benefit the local food producing organisations, specially the farmers,” he said.

Earlier, 1200 kilograms of Tripura’s jackfruit was exported to Frankfurt while perishable cargo is being regularly sent to London, Dubai, Hong Kong and Frankfurt from the airport.
