DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh registered 697 fresh COVID-19 positive cases within the last two days on Tuesday, taking the total active caseload to 3,048 in the district.

A total of 24 fatalities were also reported during the second wave.

With the second wave of COVID-19 hitting Assam badly, many young people have been infected with the virus, which has compelled the government to impose restrictions in the area.

The government had earlier issued SOPs to contain the rising number of COVID infections in the state and has for the time being ruled out the possibility of a lockdown.

Many people across the state highlighted their plight and said that lockdown is not a solution to contain the spread.

"If the government announces another lockdown, then we will be ruined and have to sit on the street. Our economic condition has become worst due to last year's lockdown," said a businessman from Dibrugarh.

While the people in the district have attributed the COVID surge to the election rallies and improper management from the government side, the political leaders have so far refrained from attributing the cause to the recently concluded Assam Elections.
