DIBRUGARH:

Amid the shortage of beds for COVID-19 patients in Assam, a 280 bedded Super Speciality Block at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) became operational on Wednesday.

AMCH Principal Dr Sanjeeb Kakati said, "An ICU with 26 beds has been opened for treatment of COVID patients from today. Phase-wise another ICU with 26 beds will be opened soon and the rest of the facilities at Super Speciality Block will be started in a phase-wise manner."

Earlier on May 31, state Health minister Keshab Mahanta had visited Dibrugarh to take stock of the COVID situation in the district. He also visited AMCH and inspected the progress of the upcoming super-speciality hospital for COVID patients.

The Health Minister has urged the District Administration and Health Department to expedite the vaccination drive and testing process to bring down the COVID cases in the region.
