GUWAHATI:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Tuesday, visited the state BJP party office here for the first time after being elevated to the top post in the state to convey his gratitude to the BJP karyakartas for their significant role in steering the party-led alliance to victory in the recently concluded Assembly polls.

Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with the party’s top leaders and office-bearers here, Sarma said that the “sacrifice, perseverance and dedication” of the party workers across various levels had a significant bearing in guiding the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to power in the state for a second consecutive time in Assam.

“I seek their good wishes and blessings to enable the new government to move ahead towards making the state developed and formidable,” he said.

Sarma, who is known to be very responsive to the media, however, said that, as chief minister, he would now address the media only once a month.

“However, a system will be put in place whereby the media is kept updated on important developments. There will be one spokesperson for the government who will address the media from time to time,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who was inducted as a Cabinet minister in the Sarma-led government, said that he would continue to hold the state party chief’s post for the next six months.

“Though the party adheres to the one-man-one-post rule, I will continue to be the state party president for the next six months, which is in accordance with the party rules. After six months, the BJP national committee will take a call on a new state party president,” Dass told the media at the state party head office at Hengrabari on Tuesday.
