DIBRUGARH:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concern and condemned the grenade explosion that happened at Tingrai Market of Tinsukia district on Friday.

The CM has ordered a probe into the matter and directed the Director-General of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to nab the miscreants and deal with the situation sternly.

“This act of violence is a sign of desperation and cowardice. The state government will never tolerate such kind of high-handedness leading to the loss of precious human lives,” Sarma said immediately after the incident.

Security forces including Range DIG rushed to the spot as soon as the incident happened, which is the second blast in the district this month.

Sarma condoled the death of those who succumbed to their injuries perpetrated by the grenade blast and wished speedy recovery of those who sustained splinter injuries.

Two persons were killed and two others were seriously injured in the blast, which was suspected to be carried out by ULFA (I) at the market area in Tingrai on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Sanjit Singh (25) and Surajit Talukdar (22), both residents of the Tingrai area.

On the other hand, the ULFA (I), who are suspected to behind the explosion, have released a statement and denied their role in the grenade blast.

"Assam police have planted explosives in the houses of the people and blaming us. We have got enough evidence against them," a statement from the ULFA (I) read.
