Assam Chief Minister holds meeting on COVID management in the state

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 16 held a meeting via video conferencing with top officials of the state for COVID control and management in the region. 

The meeting was attended by the Health Minister, Keshab Mahanta, MLA Nalbari, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Deputy Commissioners, Director General of Police and other senior government officials.

After a detailed discussion on the COVID status presented by Health Department, the government took several decisions for COVID management and to ensure proper containment measures. Some of the decisions taken by the government after the meeting were as follows:

*All Government officials will function with the Health & Family Welfare Department as one unit.

*The Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police shall lead from the front and must be visible at all times in the fight against COVID. They must regularly visit COVID hospitals and containment zones and instil confidence in the public

*DCs and SPs shall ensure that health services during odd hours are maintained with the same intensity and responsiveness.

*Availability of oxygen, ICU beds, medicine and other infrastructure for COVID management is sufficient to manage the current patient load.

*Inter-District movement of people shall be temporarily suspended from May 21, 2021.

*CVCs to have all the basic amenities.

*Deputy Commissioners to ensure steps to avoid vaccine wastage. Centres reporting vaccine wastage shall be closed and such centres may be moved to urban/ COVID hotspot areas so that vaccines are optimally utilised.

*Govt to conduct 1 lakh tests per day from May 17 onwards.

*Strengthening of the district and model hospitals, particularly in respect of oxygen, pipelines, ICU units etc.

*All districts shall ensure that COVID Care Centres provide treatment as per the relevant protocol notified by the Health Department.

*All patients undergoing home isolation shall be contacted through telemedicine without fail.

*All districts must ensure that 24x7 service is extended to the needy public by ensuring COVID service availability as well as visibility of responsible officials.

*Health & Family Welfare Department to issue necessary SOPs for institutional isolation of 50 plus age group COVID patients.

*NHM/ Revenue Disaster Management Department will place adequate fund for all districts immediately to implement the guidelines.
