DIBRUGARH:

Good news for businesses in the region as from now on, traders and businessmen would be able to send their shipments and cargos to almost any part of the world from Dibrugarh. Giving a much-needed fillip to the economy of the Northeast, air cargo services are launched from the Dibrugarh Airport on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the services, Airport Director Ramjee Awasthi said that all the four carriers currently operating from Dibrugarh Airport - Air India, Indigo, Vistara, and Flybig - will provide the services to the people.

“From now on, shipments can be sent almost anywhere from Dibrugarh Airport with fast shipping and reliable delivery time. Air Cargo, being a trade facilitator, will contribute to the economic growth of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and other adjoining regions by carrying important shipments such as tea, fresh fish, flowers, fruits, and other perishable goods all over the country and also to the other parts of the world. The combined capacity of all airlines for daily movement is close to 10 tons per day,” said Awasthi.

He further added that a full-fledged cargo terminal at the airport is also under construction and is awaiting permissions at various stages.

“This service is for the convenience of people, businesses, and to support the economic development and growth of the region. So, with approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, this service will be available from the passenger terminal building till the time a separate cargo terminal is ready for operations,” Awasthi added.

Awasthi was accompanied by the Civil Aviation Security Officer of Dibrugarh Airport, Limainba, along with representatives of various trade and industry associations at the inaugural programme.
