Assam cabinet takes several key decisions; read details

DIBRUGARH: 

The Assam Cabinet on Thursday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and took several key decisions on matters involving education, sports, and public health, among others. Here are a few highlights:

*Educational institutes to reopen from September 1, Covid vaccine compulsory for students and teachers
*Accordingly students of classes 10,12, degree students, and teachers must be vaccinated against coronavirus.
*The Nandita Saikia case will be judged in a fast-track court, and the case will be investigated by Special DGP GP Singh.
*Vaccination camp for students and teachers will start from August 27 and will go on till September 5
*Students residing in hostels should compulsorily take two doses of vaccine

Some other decisions taken by the cabinet include:

*The birth anniversary of Bhogeswar Baruah will be celebrated as Sports Day
*Sports pension has been increased to Rs 10,000, and one-time assistance has been increased to rs 50,000
*Sports personalities who participates in the National, Asian and Olympic Games will be provided with Rs 10,000 pension for a lifetime
*Science and Technology department will now be known as Technology and Climate Change
