DIBRUGARH:

At least 38 people were taken ill in what seemed to be a case of food poisoning after consuming 'prasad' in Dibrugarh's Chabua town on Sunday.

The people, who are reported to be stable now, complained of abdominal pain, and upset stomach, two to three hours after consuming the prasad.  They were subsequently admitted to Chabua Model Hospital and Tata Hospital in Chabua.

"The people are in stable condition at the moment, and we are monitoring their health regularly," a health official attending the patients said.

However, two of them were referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for further treatment after their condition deteriorated.

This is not the first time that such incidents have to light in Dibrugarh, several cases of people falling ill after consuming 'prasad' were reported earlier also in different parts of Assam.
