DIBRUGARH:

Considered one of the oldest Durga Puja Pandals in Assam, the Bokel Tea Estate Durga Puja will mark 183 years of celebrations this year.

Bokel is also the most popular puja pandal in Assam's Dibrugarh district, with a rich divine legacy spanning across generations, making it one of the most desired destinations for pandal hoppers.

Unlike last year, when celebrations were restricted to stave off the pandemic, Bokel will witness grand celebrations with all rituals in place this year, informed Secretary of Bokel Durga Puja Committee, Dinesh Das.

Das informed that Bokel Durga Puja has had a long legacy since the Ahom days. "Devotees and tourists from all over Assam flock to Bokel during this time to take blessings of Maa Durga", he said.

Das mentioned that the artisans come all the way from Kolkata to make idols in Bokel, and that the same family of artisans have been involved in the craft for generations.

The secretary maintained that, with a huge crowd expected this year, the committee will ensure that all COVID-19 SOPs are followed in letter and spirit by the public. The committee also expressed happiness over the Assam Government's decision to allow puja festivals this year.
