Assam: 3 suspected robbers shot dead in Kokrajhar

DIBRUGARH:

Assam police shot dead three alleged robbers at Kokrajhar district of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in the wee hours of Sunday.

The alleged robbers, who are yet to be identified, engaged in a fierce gun battle with the police when the latter intercepted the gang about 800 metres from an Allahabad Bank branch in Bhotgaon village, about 6 kilometers from Kokrajhar town.

Talking to TNT-The Northeast Today, Kokrajhar SP Preetak Kumar Thube said, “On receiving inputs, a security team was sent out to nab them. After they saw the police team, they started spraying bullets, and in retaliation, our police team too opened fire. Three persons were injured during the shooting and they later succumbed to the injuries,”. Thube also informed that the dead bodies have been sent for autopsy.

The SP said, “Two persons managed to flee from the scene. We have recovered two pistols, two cylinders, a portable gas cylinder, and a gas-operated cutter”. He added that the hunt is on to nab the fleeing members of the gang.
