Assam: 27 kg Cannabis seized from Dibrugarh, one held

DIBRUGARH:

Dibrugarh Police, on Thursday, arrested one person and seized a huge quantity of illegal ganja (marijuana) weighing about 27 kg from his residence at the Panchali area of Dibrugarh.

The arrested person has been identified as Siba Prasad Saha of Panchali area.

Deputy Superintendent of police (probationary) Anup Jyoti Borah said, "Recently a case no 84/21 was registered at Chabua police station, following the case, we conducted a raid at the residence of Siba Prasad Saha and seized almost 27 kg of ganja from his residence."

"We have booked the person under NDPS Act and started our interrogation," Borah added

Sources informed that Saha supplies ganja in different areas of Dibrugarh and is one of the key persons who has been associated with the trade of the illegal substance for some time

"The demand for marijuana from Meghalaya is high in Dibrugarh. The smugglers bring the illegal substance from Meghalaya and sell it in the Dibrugarh market. Many youths in Dibrugarh buy ganja from the Panchali area," a source said.
