As many as 1,36,786 people in Dibrugarh have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus to date, the Deputy Commissioner informed on Thursday.

The District Administration of Dibrugarh is following the vaccination process aggressively, amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the region.

Addressing media persons, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said that though the situation in the district is alarming, the administration is prepared to combat the situation.

"To date, 21,455 people in the district have tested positive for COVID-19, while from April 2021, as many as 66 covid patients have died," Jha said.

The DC further added that there were 335 beds for COVID patients in five model hospitals of the Dibrugarh district, of which 212 beds are occupied and 123 beds are vacant. He informed that the 100-bedded Covid Care Centre at Dikom will also be utilised for covid patients.

Apart from that, out of the 208 beds for covid patients in private hospitals in Dibrugarh, 130 beds are currently occupied while 78 beds are vacant. He said that given the surge in covid cases, 13 containment zones have been notified in the district including 4 micro-containment zones.

He further mentioned that 497 positive cases have been detected in the tea gardens of the district. The vaccination process has been ramped up in the tea gardens to check the spread.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Prateek Thube, who was also present at the meeting, has said that strict action will be taken against violators of lockdown and curfew orders in the district.

Thube appealed to the public not to venture out of their houses unless and until it is necessary and urgent.

He warned that no leniency will be shown against people who violate the odd-even vehicle rule imposed in the district.
