Assam’s first woman IAS officer Parul Devi Das succumbs to COVID-19

An Assam-Meghalaya cadre officer, she had also briefly served Meghalaya in the early 1980s.

GUWAHATI:

Former Additional Chief Secretary of Assam and the state’s first woman IAS officer, Parul Devi Das succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital here on Monday.

An Assam-Meghalaya cadre officer, she had also briefly served Meghalaya in the early 1980s.

Born and brought up in Shillong, she completed her schooling from Loreto Convent.

Her father Late Ramnath Das was a cabinet minister in undivided Assam while her brother Naba Kumar Das is a former chief secretary of Assam.

In a condolence message, Assam chief minister Sonowal said, “An example of dedication, devotion and diligence, Parul Devi Das’s service towards administrative efficiency of the state will forever remain a source of inspiration for everybody. As an administrative officer, Parul Devi Das rendered important services to the people. Though her death is a loss to the state, her life is a source of inspiration which will continue to motivate the posterity.”
