Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu beats Japan's Yamaguchi, enters semi-finals 

Sindhu defeated Japan's number four seeded Akane Yamaguchi in the quart-finals in two straight sets 21-13, 22-20 under 56 minutes to seal her spot in the semis.

TOKYO:

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of women's singles badminton event at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

Sindhu defeated Japan's number four seeded Akane Yamaguchi in the quart-finals in two straight sets 21-13, 22-20 under 56 minutes to seal her spot in the semis.

For Sindhu winning the first set was easy, however, the second set witnessed some competition from Yamaguchi, who later conceded two points losing the game.

Sindhu will play her semi-final match on July 31 against the winners of the match between Thailand and Taipei that will be played later today.

Earlier, Sindhu sailed into the women’s singles quarterfinals at the Tokyo Olympics with a straight-game triumph over Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt on Thursday.
