Tokyo Olympics: Archer Deepika Kumari advances to quarter-finals

The Indian archer defeated her opponent 6-4 to sail to the next round (quarter finals), ushering in hope for India for a medal.

TOKYO:

World number 1 women archer Deepika Kumari defeated USA's Jennifer Mucino-Farnandez in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics to progress into the 1/8 Eliminations round on Wednesday.

The Indian archer defeated her opponent 6-4 to sail to the next round (quarter finals), ushering in hope for India for a medal.

Kumari lost the first two sets to come out strong in the succeeding rounds before equalising 4-4, and then eventually taking the lead to 6-4.

Earlier during the day, archers Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav crashed out of the men's individual archery event after losing in the 1/16 eliminations round.

In the mixed team event, Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav on Saturday lost their quarter-final match to South Korea's An San and Kim Je.
