Mary Kom, Manpreet Singh named as flag-bearers for Indian Contingent at Tokyo Olympics

London Olympics bronze medallist MC Mary is the second sportsperson from the Northeast to lead the Indian contingent at the Olympics.

Ace boxer from Manipur MC Mary Kom and men's Hockey team Captain Manpreet Singh have been named as flag bearers for the Indian Olympic contingent at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

London Olympics bronze medallist MC Mary is the second sportsperson from the Northeast to lead the Indian contingent at the Olympics.

Prior to Kom, Talimeren Ao, a footballer from Nagaland was the first person from the Northeast part of India to lead the Indian contingent at the global sporting event at the 1948 London Olympics.

Kom will be participating in her second Olympics after the London 2012 games, while this will be the third Olympics for Singh.

A 200-strong Indian contingent will be participating in various events at the Tokyo Olympics which begins on July 23, intending to clinch as many medals as possible.
