NEW DELHI:

Ace Indian sprinter, Dutee Chand, has qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in both 100 and 200 metres race categories through the world ranking quota.

Chand created a new national record in the 100 metres race at the recently concluded Indian Grand Prix IV in Patiala by clocking 11.17 seconds to finish the race.

Though she won the race with a record time, she missed the Olympic qualification time by just 0.02 seconds, as per the Olympics qualification parameters.

Chand qualified for the Tokyo Olympics based on her World Rankings. which presently ranks her world no. 44 in 100 m and world no. 51 in 200 m categories respectively.

Chand qualification ushers in new hope for India at the event, as another Indian sprinter Hima Das, who was great hope for India at the Olympic games could not make it to the Tokyo Olympics this time.

Das had fallen short of the qualifying time of 22.80 seconds in the finals of the women’s 200 metres race at the national inter-state athletics championship in Patiala. The 21-year-old athlete from Assam finished fifth with a timing of 25.03 seconds.
