NEW DELHI:

The Indian Premier League 2021 season has been suspended for the time being, owing to the current COVID-19 crisis gripping the country.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed the development stating that "IPL has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now."

The suspension was announced after several players from different teams tested COVID-19 positive over the past couple of days.

Earlier on Monday, the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was rescheduled after two players Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier had tested positive for the virus.
