IGU Junior Boys Golf Championship begins in Shillong

The IGU is trying to schedule more national events in the North-Eastern region in the coming months and is hopeful of people picking up the game in tier 2 and 3 cities of the region.

SHILLONG:

With Meghalaya observing its 50th statehood anniversary next year, The Indian Golf Union (IGU) along with the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society (MGPS) and Shillong Club Ltd in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt of Meghalaya will conduct the IGU Shillong Junior Boys Golf Championship from November 15-19, 2021 at Shillong Golf Course.

The championship will be a National event that carries points towards the National Order of Merit for Junior Boys.

Two of the top juniors of the nation participating in the event Shat Mishra and Sagar Uppal will face local favorites Siddhant Singhania and Shaurya Goenka, who have the advantage of playing in their home course. Along with the duo from Meghalaya, Assam's Ambarish Bora will be the third person representing the Northeast.

State cabinet minister James K Sangma has given his consent to be the patron for the event and has assured full support of the Government of Meghalaya.

AL Hek, MLA, Govt of Meghalaya, an avid Golfer and advisor to the Meghalaya Golf Promoters Society has agreed to be the Chairman for the event.

Michael Hek, Secretary, MGPS  said “Hosting of such events keeps the Golf Course in good shape and also contributes to the economy of the State.”
