Cyclone 'Yass' Updates: Yellow and Orange alerts issued for Meghalaya

The India Meteorological Department(IMD) has issued orange alerts in multiple districts in Meghalaya.

GUWAHATI/SHILLONG:

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ is likely to move north-northwestwards, intensifying further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours.

According to a press release issued by Regional Meteorological Centre, the cyclone is likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island close to the north of Dhamra and south of Balasore on May 26 as a very ‘severe’ cyclonic storm.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department(IMD), in its special bulletin, has issued a yellow alert for Meghalaya on May 25 and 26. 

Orange alerts have been issued for East Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills on May 25 and West Garo Hills on May 26. 

Forecast and warnings for May 26 and 27 have been issued for the northeastern states, especially Meghalaya and Assam.
