NEW DELHI:

Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, on December 21, said that the government has set up two Integrated Beekeeping Development Centres (IBDCs) in the North-Eastern Region.

The Minister informed that one such centre has been set up at the College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, and the second centre has been set up at Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Imphal in Manipur.

“The centres have been set up by the National Bee Board (NBB) under the scheme “Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH),” he said, while adding that the centres have been set up for the promotion of beekeeping before launching the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM).

“At present, there is no honey testing lab established in Meghalaya under National Beekeeping and Honey Mission. However, training and awareness programmes are being conducted to promote scientific beekeeping in the North East Region including Meghalaya,” said Tomar in a written reply to Congress MP from Meghalaya Vincent H Pala.
