Amid the nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases, the sight of Goddess Durga wearing a face mask greeted devotees at a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district.

With an aim to spread awareness on COVID-19, the temple priest had placed the mask onto the idol and distributed face masks to devotees during the Navaratri season “to bring out a sense of responsibility in dealing with the pandemic.”

While addressing reporters, the priest of the Durga Temple, Manoj Sharma, said, “Since devotees are thronging the temple in large numbers, we decided to put a face mask on the idol of the goddess to send a powerful message about maintaining safety protocols.”

“The COVID-19 advisory has been put all around the temple premises so that people adhere to basic COVID guidelines, which will ensure the safety of public health,” he said.

The priest also informed that he does not allow more than devotees into the temple.
