NEW DELHI:

India’s recorded 2,16,850 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours on Friday - the highest single-day spike so far.

With Friday’s figures, India’s active caseload now stands at 4,287,740 to become the second worst-hit nation in the world.

India also witnessed 11,183 COVID-19 fatalities in a single day, and the death toll now stands at 1,74,335.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with infections above 60,000 each day, followed by Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, amid the surge, various governments have imposed restrictions.

Earlier, New Delhi imposed a night curfew, and Mumbai promulgated a weekend lockdown. The government has also cancelled the upcoming CBSE board exams because of the grim situation.

In the coming weeks, states are likely to impose more restrictions if the situation does not improve.
