Pooja Rani wins India's first gold at Asian Boxing championships 2021, Mary Kom and two others win silver

Indian pugilist Pooja Rani bagged the country's first gold medal in this year's Asian Boxing Championships, ongoing in Dubai, after defeating Mavluda Movlonova of Uzbekistan in the 75kg women's category final on Sunday.

For the Olympic-bound Pooja, this was her first bout of the tournament, where she handed a clean 5-0 defeat to Movlonova in the finals, also winning USD 10,000 for her flawless victory.

Meanwhile, six-time world champion MC Mary Kom crashed to a narrow split-decision defeat against Kazakhstan's Nazym Kyzaibay in the women's 51kg final, placing her in the second position and giving her a silver.

In other final categories, intense and close margin fights were put up by tournament debutant Lalbuatsaihi (64kg) and Anupama (81kg), handing them both a silver medal each.

The men's finals will be held today where Amit Panghal (52kg), Shiva Thapa (64kg) and Sanjeet (91kg) will compete aiming for the apex positions.
