NEW DELHI:

As COVID continues to wreak havoc in India, vaccination becomes crucial at this juncture to contain the spread of the virus in the country.

The Indian government has therefore put in place various measures to inoculate the large population of India, including the liberalised and accelerated phase three of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

However, there are various challenges that the government is facing now when it comes to vaccinating the vast majority of the population, one being the shortage of vaccine, and the other being the myths and misconceptions surrounding the vaccine.

Despite the government's best efforts to vaccinate all the beneficiaries in the shortest possible time, false claims are being spread about the ongoing vaccination drive.

Recently a claim has been made that the Union Government has not approved certain vaccines available globally to be considered for inoculation in India.

The Central government has termed this claim as false and maliciously distorted to instil in the public a sense of fear and apprehension.

The government in April 2021 had proactively eased the entry of vaccines approved by concerned agencies of the US, UK, Japan and the World Health Organisation's Emergency Use Listing into India.

Further, all vaccines procured from abroad or manufactured in India will not need to undergo prior bridging trials, the government has stated.

All vaccines available in India have been approved by the Indian Government, and the public should not resort to fake news being spread across various platforms.

The Central Government has remained engaged continuously with all the major international vaccine manufacturers right from mid-2020 when COVID vaccine research and manufacturing had been started by the world's leading pharma companies.

India Government had multiple rounds of discussions with Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson and Moderna ahead of the vaccination process and has also approved the international companies to manufacture vaccines in India.

Hence, the Indian public must not believe in fake news surrounding the vaccines and must come forward to get the same from their nearest centres.

Vaccination is the only tool that will help us fight the COVID pandemic at the moment.
