NEW DELHI:

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has withdrawn the security cover of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy, government sources informed on Thursday.

The decision to withdraw the central security cover comes days after Roy had written to the centre regarding the same after he had switched loyalties.

Roy, who joined BJP in 2017, was given the central security cover after post-poll violence in West Bengal by the union government

Roy was one of the founding members of the TMC and was an active member of the party between 1998-2017. However, in 2017, he had shifted to the BJP camp.

Subsequently, after the 2021 West Bengal Elections in which the TMC secured a landslide victory, Roy rejoined the TMC along with his son Subhranshu Roy on June 11.
