Mary Kom, Manpreet Singh lead Indian contingent at opening ceremony of Tokyo Olympics

A 25-member Indian contingent attended the low-profile opening ceremony at the National Stadium in Tokyo, witnessed by about 950 people amid COVID concerns.

Boxer Mary Kom and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh led the way as India made its way at the Parade of the Nations during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

A 25-member Indian contingent attended the low-profile opening ceremony at the National Stadium in Tokyo, witnessed by about 950 people amid COVID concerns.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Thomas Bach, gave the opening speech and welcomed all the athletes from around the world for the global sporting extravaganza.

A total of 127 Indian athletes are participating in the Tokyo Olympics this time, the biggest contingent ever to represent the country at the Olympic games.

The events scheduled for today include Archery, Shooting, Rowing, Equestrian events. Archery will witness Indian archers participate in the individual qualification rounds today.
