India reports less than 1 lakh new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 66 days

With 86,498 news cases, the daily fresh infections are the lowest in the last two months, showing signs that India is steadily moving towards managing the second wave of the pandemic.

NEW DELHI:

India on Tuesday reported less than one lakh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfares said.

With 86,498 news cases, the daily fresh infections are the lowest in the last two months, showing signs that India is steadily moving towards managing the second wave of the pandemic.

On the other hand, daily recoveries continue to outnumber the new cases with 1,82,282 patients having recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the active number of COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 13,03,702, with 2,123 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 36.80 crore samples have been tested in the country till June 7.

The national recovery rate has increased to 94.29 per cent and the weekly positivity rate has gone down to 5.94 per cent.

In addition to that, more than 23.61 crore COVID vaccine doses have been administered so far in the country.
