NEW DELHI:

PM Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on Monday announced that all vaccines will be procured by the centre and given to states for free from June 21 onwards.

The Centre will take back control of the vaccination drive from the states and provide free vaccines to everyone above the age of 18, stated Modi during his speech besides highlighting other policies.

In addition to free vaccines, the Centre has changed the vaccination policy on-demand from the states - 25 per cent will be handled by the states now.

PM stated that the vaccination drive was decentralised after demands from the states and allow the states to procure vaccine themselves.

Among other things, the PM informed that private hospitals can charge a maximum of Rs 150 for vaccination above the price.

The Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has also been extended till November 2021.
