India registers over 40,000 COVID-19 cases for fifth consecutive day

According to the Union Health Ministry, this is the fifth straight day when India has recorded over 40,000 COVID-19 cases, with few states such as Kerela, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh accounting for the highest percentage of cases in the country.

NEW DELHI:

India registered 41,831 fresh COVID-19 infections and 541 deaths in the last 24 hours on Sunday as per the Union Home Ministry data.

According to the Union Health Ministry, this is the fifth straight day when India has recorded over 40,000 COVID-19 cases, with few states such as Kerela, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh accounting for the highest percentage of cases in the country.

With Sunday's figures, India cumulative COVID-19 tally has climbed to 3,16,13,993, and the cumulative death toll has reached 4,23,810.

The country's recovery rate currently stands at 97.36 per cent and the daily positivity rate stands at 2.34 per cent.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has also informed that India has administered a total of 47.02 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
