India records 43,509 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, recovery rate over 97 per cent

India registered 43,509 fresh COVID-19 cases including 640 deaths in the last 24 hours on Thursday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed.

Apart from the positive cases, India also recorded 38,465 recoveries in the last 24 hours with a recovery rate of 97.38 per cent, the Health Ministry said.

Top five states which continue to register the maximum number of cases adding the highest percentage to the latest spike include Kerela, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu and Odsha.

According to the Union Health Ministry, these five states account for 79.02 cases in the country, urging the centre to take immediate steps to control the surge.

The daily and weekly positive rates currently stand at 2.38 per cent and 2.52 per respectively.

The country has substantially ramped up testing capacity with as many as 46 crore test conducted so far.

The MoHFW also informed that India has administered a total number of 45,0706,257 doses of COVID-19 vaccine under the nationwide vaccination drive.
