India records less than 1 lakh COVID-19 cases for second consecutive day

India on Wednesday reported less than 1 lakh new COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed.

India registered 92,596 COVID-19 cases with 2219 fatalities in the last 24 hours, a few thousand higher than Tuesday's tally of 86,498.

The country now has 12,31,415 active cases, with 2,75,04,126 cumulative recoveries.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the weekly positivity rate currently stands at 5.66 per cent and the daily positivity rate has dropped to 4.66 per cent.

Meanwhile, recoveries continue to outnumber the daily COVID-19 cases, with as many as 1,62,664 people have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

India's recovery rate has increased to an incredible 94.55 per cent, a trend that has continued for the last many days.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 37,01,93,563 samples for COVID-19 have been tested till June 8.

The country has also administered a total of 23.9 crore COVID vaccine doses since the start of the nationwide vaccination drive.
