India records 42,640 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, lowest in 91 days

The country is witnessing a continuous decline in fresh COVID-19 infections, and the second wave of the virus has abated to a large extent.

With 42,640 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours on Tuesday, India recorded the lowest spike after 91 days, the Union Health Ministry said.

The country is witnessing a continuous decline in fresh COVID-19 infections, and the second wave of the virus has abated to a large extent.

The country witnessed as many as 81,839 recoveries and 1,167 deaths in the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

Further, there are about 6,62,521 active-active cases in the country right now, the  Union Health Ministry informed.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the daily positivity rate in the country stands at 2.56 per cent, while the recovery rate has reached 96.49 per cent.

The Union Health Ministry further informed that a total of 28.87 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive, with 86.16 lakhs administered on Monday alone.
