NEW DELHI:

The CoWIN portal crashed on Wednesday after a large number of people tried to register on the website, ahead of the Phase 3 vaccination drive which starts on May 1st.

The registrations for vaccinations for the age group 18-45 years started on Wednesday at 4 pm, and after some time the website stopped functioning.

Several people complained that they could not access the CoWIN portal or the app, adding that they encountered "504 Gateway Time-Out" error.

Many people took to social media to convey their disappointment over the functioning of the website.

Earlier, the Indian government had announced that registration for vaccination between 18-45 years old would start through the CoWIN and Aarogya Setu apps and eligible beneficiaries can do the registration process online to save time.

However, it seems that the government servers could not handle the massive registrations simultaneously.
