Active cases drop for two consecutive days in India

NEW DELHI:

India records a second dip in the number of active cases for two days consecutively, following a report from the Union Health Ministry.

3,48,421 new coronavirus infections were reported on Wednesday, according to the Ministry data.

What looks like a matter of concern is the rise in the number of death count in the last 24 hours which is 4205, the highest ever number of deaths in a single day since the pandemic began, taking the total toll to 2,54,197.

Maharashtra reported the highest number of death count with over 800 deaths in the last 24 hours itself.

In the Northeastern region, Assam recorded the highest number of deaths, followed by Manipur and Tripura

The total number of cases in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have crossed the 20,000 mark, and Nagaland and Sikkim the 10,000 mark.

On the other hand, Mizoram is seen to record the lowest number of cases, 7795 in total, with 1771 still active and just 22 deaths registered, so far.

The recovery rate in the country stands at 83.04 per cent and the total vaccination number has increased to 17,52,35,991.
