NEW DELHI:

The Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) has said that the Taliban rebels have stopped all imports and exports from India through transit routes of Pakistan after the recent takeover of Afghanistan.

Director General of FIEO, Ajay Sahai stated that after seizing control of Kabul, the Taliban have stopped the movement of cargo through the routes of Pakistan thereby hampering and stopping exports and imports between the two nations.

“We are keeping a close watch on the developments in Afghanistan. Imports from there come through the transit route of Pakistan. As of now, the Taliban has stopped the movement of cargo to Pakistan, so virtually imports have stopped,” said Sahai, adding that India is one of the largest exporters to Afghanistan and exported produce amounting to 285 million dollars in 2021.

Sahay further added that India did a considerable investment of around 3 billion US dollars along with some 400 projects, some of which are still undergoing in the war-torn region. Taliban took over the regime in Afghanistan after two decades following the backing out of the United States troops from the region.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Human Rights Council will hold a special session on Afghanistan on August 24, to address the "serious human rights concerns" following the takeover of the war-torn country.

A total of 89 nations have supported the session and the delegation will likely discuss a wide range of issues over the Talibani control of Afghanistan.
