India receives $64 billion dollars in FDI in 2020, fifth-largest recipient in the world

With a 27 per cent annual increase,  FDI in India increased from 51 billion dollars in 2019 to 64 billion dollars in 2020, which according to the report was mainly due to acquisitions in the information and communication technology industry.

According to a report by the United Nations (UN) released on Tuesday, India received about 64 billion dollars in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2021, which makes the country the fifth-largest recipient of inflows in the world.

With a 27 per cent annual increase,  FDI in India increased from 51 billion dollars in 2019 to 64 billion dollars in 2020, which according to the report was mainly due to acquisitions in the information and communication technology industry.

Despite India posting a positive investment inflow, the World Investment Report 2021 released by the UN Conference on Trade and Development further stated that global FDI flows have been severely hit by the pandemic and they plunged 35 per cent in 2020, to 1 trillion dollars from 1.5 trillion dollars the previous year.
